PS5 Wont Turn On? No Power Troubleshooting and Repair Guide

Few things are more frustrating than pressing the power button on your PS5 and getting nothing — no light, no fan, no beep. A console that wont turn on at all points to a power delivery problem somewhere in the chain, and the good news is that most of these failures are repairable without replacing the entire console.

Start with the basics. Before assuming the worst, rule out the simple stuff. Try a different power cable and a different wall outlet — PS5 power cables and surge protectors do fail. Hold the power button down for 15 seconds to force a hard reset. If the console was recently moved, make sure the cable is fully seated. If none of that brings it back to life, the issue is internal.

The power supply unit (PSU). The most common cause of a totally dead PS5 is a failed internal power supply. Power surges, lightning strikes and simple component aging can blow the PSU. When this happens, the console gets no power at all. A failed PSU is a straightforward repair — the unit is replaced with a known-good part and the console comes right back to life. This is far cheaper than buying a new PS5.

Motherboard and power faults. If the power supply tests good, the problem may be on the motherboard itself — a shorted component, a failed power management chip, or liquid damage. The blinking blue light or beep-then-off. Some PS5 power problems show partial life — a brief light, a single beep, then shutdown. This often indicates a power fault detected by the consoles protection circuit, or in some cases an APU (main chip) issue. These cases need hands-on diagnosis to determine whether the fix is economical.
