PS5 Controller Wont Charge? DualSense Charging Port Repair

Your PS5 DualSense controller gets a lot of use, and the USB-C charging port takes the brunt of daily plugging and unplugging. When the controller stops charging, charges only at a certain angle, or wont hold a connection, the charging port is the most likely culprit — and its a repairable one.

Why charging ports fail. USB-C ports are soldered to the controllers small internal board, and repeated insertion wears them out over time. Pulling the cable at an angle, tripping over a connected cable, or dust and lint packing into the port all accelerate the damage. Eventually the internal contacts loosen or the port physically loosens from the board, breaking the charging connection.

Try the easy fixes first. Before assuming the port is broken, test a different USB-C cable — cables fail more often than people think. Then gently clean the port with a wooden or plastic toothpick and a flashlight to remove packed-in lint. A surprising number of charging problems are just a port full of pocket debris. If a known-good cable and a clean port still wont charge, the port itself needs repair.

The repair. Fixing a DualSense charging port means carefully opening the controller, desoldering the worn USB-C port, and soldering in a new one. This is precise micro-soldering work — the port has many tiny pins packed close together. Done correctly, it fully restores charging and costs far less than buying a new controller, which run $70 or more.
