Game Console Repair
Can a PS5 HDMI Port Be Fixed? Yes — Here's How
A broken PS5 HDMI port is one of the most repairable console problems there is. Here's exactly how the fix works.

If your PlayStation 5 powers on but shows no picture, you may have already been told the HDMI port is broken — and you're probably wondering whether it can actually be fixed or whether you need a whole new console. The short answer is yes, a PS5 HDMI port can be fixed, and in most cases the console is completely restored the same day.
The HDMI port is a replaceable part. The port isn't built into the chip or permanently fused to the system. It's a separate metal connector soldered onto the PS5 mainboard. That means a technician with the right equipment can remove the damaged port and solder on a brand-new one. It's precise work, but it's a well-understood, routine repair for a shop that does board-level console work.
How the repair actually works. First, the console is tested with a known-good cable and TV to confirm the port is the real problem and not an accessory. Then the PS5 is opened and the HDMI port is inspected under magnification for bent pins, cracked solder joints, or damage to the nearby retimer chip. Using a hot-air rework station, the old port is heated and lifted off, the pads are cleaned, and a new OEM-grade port is soldered into place. Finally the console is reassembled and tested at full 4K output before it goes back to you.
When is it not worth fixing? The vast majority of no-signal PS5s just need the port replaced. The only time repair becomes questionable is if the console was dropped hard enough to also damage the retimer chip or tear the pads off the board. Even then, board-level repair is often still possible — a proper diagnosis tells you exactly what you're dealing with before you spend a dime.
Repair vs. replacement. A new PS5 runs $400 to $500. HDMI port repair starts at $125. Beyond the money, repairing keeps your storage, installed games, saves and account exactly as they were — no re-downloading a terabyte of games or setting everything up again. For almost everyone, repair is the obvious choice.
