Bent HDMI Pins on PS5? Can It Be Repaired?

Bent HDMI pins are a leading cause of PS5 no-signal issues. Here's when they can be straightened and when the port needs replacing.

If you've looked into your PS5's HDMI port with a flashlight and noticed the tiny pins inside look bent, crooked or crushed, you've likely found the reason for your no-signal problem. Bent HDMI pins are one of the most common causes of a PS5 that won't display a picture. The good news: it's repairable.

What causes bent pins. The pins inside an HDMI port are extremely thin and delicate. They get bent when a cable is forced in at an angle, when the console is moved with the cable still attached, or when someone trips over the cable and wrenches the connector sideways. It only takes one bad plug-in to fold a pin over.

Can bent pins be straightened? Sometimes. If just one or two pins are slightly bent and none are broken or touching each other, a technician may be able to carefully straighten them under magnification with fine tools and restore the connection. It's delicate work — the pins are fragile and can snap if handled roughly, which is why this shouldn't be a DIY attempt.

When the port needs replacing instead. If pins are broken off, badly crushed, bridged together, or if the port is also loose or cracked, straightening won't give you a reliable fix. In those cases the whole HDMI port is removed and a new one soldered in. This is the more durable solution and is what most badly damaged ports need. A proper inspection determines which route makes sense for your console.

Don't keep forcing cables in. The biggest mistake people make with bent pins is continuing to jam the cable in trying to get a picture. This can break the pins entirely, short them together, or tear the pads off the board — turning a simple fix into a much bigger board-level repair. If you see bent pins, stop using the port and get it looked at.

Why professional repair matters. Whether the fix is straightening or full port replacement, HDMI pin work requires magnification, fine tools and, for replacement, hot-air soldering equipment. An experienced shop can tell within minutes which approach your console needs and complete most repairs the same day.
