Samsung Cracked Screen Repair: AMOLED vs LCD and What It Costs

Samsung screen repairs vary widely depending on whether your phone uses an AMOLED or LCD display. Here is what matters.

Samsung phones use two main display types: AMOLED (found on Galaxy S and Note series) and LCD (found on Galaxy A series and older budget models). This distinction matters because it directly affects repair cost, part availability and display quality after repair.

AMOLED screens produce deeper blacks, richer colors and thinner profiles, but they cost more to replace. A cracked AMOLED display often shows green or purple lines, dead spots or complete blackout even if the outer glass looks intact. That is because the OLED layer sits directly beneath the glass with no separate backlight — once the organic layer is damaged, the screen fails in unpredictable ways.

LCD screens are generally cheaper to repair and more forgiving. A cracked LCD panel usually still shows an image behind the cracks until the break is severe. Replacement LCDs are widely available for most Galaxy A models, and turnaround is often same-day for common models.

One important factor Samsung owners should know: many Galaxy S models use curved-edge glass, which makes screen replacement more complex. The adhesive around curved edges requires more precision, and aftermarket curved screens vary in quality. JWS explains part options — including whether OEM-quality or aftermarket makes sense for your model — before starting work.

If your Samsung has a cracked screen, avoid using it with exposed glass. Sharp edges can cut your fingers and moisture can seep in and cause board-level corrosion over time. Get an estimate with the instant quote tool or visit the Samsung repair page for more details.
